We are about to embark on a very expensive pitch maintenance programme at Butt Field which is going to cost well into five figures. In order to ensure that we get maximum benefit from this investment we have been advised by the professionals that we should have as little footfall on the surfaces as possible during the six week period of the works. Obviously cricket has to continue as this is the cricket season and the club have matches to fulfill.
The football club committee have decided to suspend all training during this period from May 14th to June 30th. Training can re-commence on July 1st for those who feel it necessary.
We feel this is a small inconvenience for what we sincerely hope will be a long term gain. This shutdown is likely to be an ongoing annual event for the foreseeable future and teams, players and parents should be prepared for it.
CHAIRMAN'S COMMENT - For the first time in a very long time, I feel we are heading in the right direction. I have had some parents moan about the state of the pitches and issues surrounding training and games being cancelled. I have to accept these - and do for the most part agree - as the club belongs to the parents & players - the members. These works are being carried out for everyone's benefit. This season we have made giant strides forward with winter training arrangements by securing training away from Butt Field for the majority of teams. We do not however, have a bottomless pit of money to constantly pay for outsourced training. My strong recommendation is that these six weeks are be taken off as most of the players have had a hard season and deserve a well-earned rest.
