The Barcelona of U13 football teach Blues a lesson

This game was another stern test for Bingham as the lads travelled with only 11 available players to face one of the league’s strongest teams. It was clear from the outset that Paul in goal and his fellow defenders Oliver, Joe, Nathan & Ben were going to be severely tested and so it proved. The first half saw almost constant pressure from the home team with Bingham defending magnificently and repelling wave after wave of attack. Coming up to half-time they had managed to keep the score down to a respectable 2-0 and mounted a few break-away moves that never quite resulted in clear-cut chances. However a couple of late goals just conceded just before half-time meant that the teams turned round with Collingham 4-0 to the good.
The second half saw manager Billy make a tactical change by moving Nathan further forwards and playing Nick in a deeper role which gave Bingham more of an attacking threat. The defence continued to perform fantastically meaning Bingham were able to mount more concerted attacks as the game went on. Tom, Ash and Josh worked tirelessly in the middle of the pitch, putting in many fierce tackles and looking for intelligent balls forward to the ever-willing Nathan, Josh & Zak. The chances began to come but the Collingham keeper was equal to everything Bingham threw at him and the quality of the opposition attacking meant that the second half was punctuated with more goals conceded at the other end from some excellent moves. Despite this it was really encouraging to see the boys take the game to the home team make a good game of it. The final 11-0 scoreline was harsh on Bingham who can take a lot of heart from the way they managed to defend resolutely, counter-attack when possible and keep their shape & energy up to the final whistle. Well done lads, particularly Paul who was Man of the Match, and this experience will help the results come when facing less imposing opposition in the coming weeks.
