A gritty performance in a tough fixture
AFC Vernon (Colts) 10 - 0 Bingham Town Youth FC
Josh, Olivia, Robbie, Maisy, Isobelle, Arun
The Colts saw Isobelle forced to make a few early until Bingham settled into the game. Josh made a strong run leading to a shot on goal for Maisy, and Colts counter attack saw their shot forced wide onto the post be clever positioning by Isobelle, a quick flurry of goals from the Colts saw Bingham down, but their character shone through with Maisy’s perfectly placed corner leading to a shot on goal for Josh. Robbie held a tight defensive position making it very tough for the Colts and Arun’s man marking left their striker struggling for space. The physical nature of the game saw Arun take a knock which required some touch line treatment, whilst Olivia took to the pitch once again.
Isobelle started the half on fire, being denied a goal by the post. A refreshed Arun took on goalkeeping duties in the second half which tested him from the start with a great save in the 23rd minute. Isobelle managed to get a second shot away but it was forced wide. Following this up Maisy stepped up for a Bingham free kick in the 24th minute but Bingham were unable to capitalise. Continuing with her form Maisy made some lightening runs up the wing narrowly missing chances to break through the Colt’s defence. Josh now in a defensive role closed down the opposition’s attack but they managed to get a shot away forcing Arun to make a great save. Arun continued to make some great saves but Vernon Colts gritty play saw them score kicking the ball out of Arun’s fingers. Olivia’s second half performance saw her mark her player off the park, so much so they coach was left with no option but to sub him. Robbie came on for an injured Josh to as the defensive rock, leaving the Colts frustrated in the final minutes. A Robbie free kick straight to Olivia allowed her to turn to goal but a tight Vernon defence denied her the shot on goal she deserved. A great team performance, with superb individual skill was the order of the day.
Bingham once again showed themselves to be talented, determined, great sportsmen and women and played football which was both a credit to them and to their club.
A great day had by all, and thanks to our hosts who made us very welcome.
