Overpowered at home - but still a great first half of the season
For the first time this season I don’t really want to write the match report. However, we must give full credit to the visitors who battled hard and suited the style of the referee who wanted to let the game flow. The goals conceded by us were a bit soft and as a coach you hope that any opposition goals have to be very hard earned. Our forwards battled well and deserved more for their efforts, but it was 0-3 at half time.
Performance levels improved after the break for the home team and Nicola scored a great solo goal after showing some real persistence and determined running. Unfortunately the early Christmas presents kept on coming for the HSC forwards and despite our girls continuing to plug away it finished 1-6 to the visitors.
The positives to take from the game were Nic’s goal, lots of game time for our newer players, and some valuable lessons on positional alignment, winning individual battles on the pitch, and (cliché alert!) “earning the right to play” (© Every ex-pro player turned TV pundit). We will use these lessons in training and also take the opportunity to review who plays where now that we are moving to 11-a-side permanently.
Having said all of that, it is quite a weird thing to be disappointed after what has been a brilliant first half of the season. P10 W7 D1 L2 with 33 goals scored along the way is not a bad record by any means and the girls should rightly be proud of it. We have time now to regroup in training and hopefully get back to winning ways in January.
BTFC Player of the Match was Anna B who gave her all as she always does, even returning to the pitch after a first half asthma attack. Well deserved and a credit to the team.
