First local derby!
A good workout for our youngest girls league team
With the wet weather on Saturday putting paid to fixtures at Butt Field yet again, thanks to some sterling work from Sue the Radcliffe Olympic manager we swapped this game to the 3G pitch at South Notts Academy and became the away team.
Bingham kicked off the first half facing into a bright and low winter sun, which made things difficult for Isabelle in the BTFC goal. The Radcliffe girls had the edge in this first period, they were quick to the ball and strong in the tackle and created lots of chances, taking a couple of them. Some excellent defensive work from Olivia, Ruby, Lily and then Lara - together with some great saves by Isabelle - kept Bingham in the match. Maddie, Louise and Tallulah all worked very hard in attack and midfield and created a few good opportunities but sadly the goal did not come.
In the second half the visitors grew into the match and things were much more even. Radcliffe added to their tally with a scrappy one that was unfortunate for the Bingham defence and keeper. but the girls kept working hard and right at the end looked as though they'd got one back. A great shot from Maddie thumped the post, came back out into play and was handled by an Olympic player. Maddie struck the resulting penalty very well, unfortunately hitting the other post! That proved to be almost the final kick of the match and it would have been nice for the Bingham girls to get the goal their efforts deserved. However, they kept battling away to the end as always and should be pleased with their performance, particularly in the second half. They are clearly improving with every game.
